What a beautiful island! So many mountains and rivers and varying beaches.
I had not planned to split our hotel up into it's own post, but I have just a few too many pictures of Kauai as a whole, and blogger won't let me put them all in just one post. So... here we go!
We chose a hotel that ended up being just perfect!
We stayed at the Koa Kea Resort in Poipu.
It was a small boutique hotel with only 120 rooms. The grounds were small, but very pretty, and quiet and peaceful. We were right next to the Marriot, which is a nice hotel.
But every time we would walk down the beach past it, and it's incredibly busy pool, we were so glad to get back to the relaxing, personal atmosphere of our hotel. Everyone ended up spending most of the trip hanging around the hotel grounds. They had plenty of equipment to rent and take right down to the beach.
Our group was probably the noisiest thing going on at Koa Kea, just because there were so many of us. They were very welcoming of our party. And all the other guests that we met and chatted with around the pool were so friendly! Always curious about how so many of us knew each other!
It was close enough to walk to just a few restaurant options, and a very short drive to many more. Renting a car on Kauai is a good idea.
I was so glad the travel agent found this hotel as an option, because I had seen it in a travel magazine, and thought it looked so great. When she sent it as a good choice for us, I was very happy! The feedback from Del's employees was that they loved it too.
But really, what else are they going to say to the person who chose it! So hopefully they were telling me what they really felt.
I thought the carpet in our room was cool.
We ate at the restaurant in the hotel, Red Salt for one of the company dinners. We do not propose to be chic, and this was a "small plates" restaurant. Some of the portion sizes were just comical to us unsophisticated diners! But those who ate said what did come out was really good! I stuck with a liquid diet this night. I was just too nervous.
Jerry is funny! What can I say?!
Some of the guys enjoyed the sushi bar in the hotel lobby. They said it was very good.
A run on the beach. Boy that is a workout!
We enjoyed our time on the South Shore of Kauai. The sun shines here, the storms blocked by the mountains that divide the island from East to West. The North end of the island gets much more rain, and has more of a lush landscape, but the dryer weather makes for some perfect beach time, and fun in the sun!
It was definitely one of those places I would love to see again!
