Utah 2013

The time we spent in Utah this year went by so quickly, filled with family and lots of fun activities!
It was so good to end our road trip with hugs from Grandma!

We got up bright and early the day after we arrived for a full schedule at Lagoon! The kids were all pretty brave this trip, and they were willing to try almost all the rides.

Grandma and grandpa have this fun 4-wheeler at their house. When all 12 grandkids are around, it gets a lot of use, as you can imagine!

We tried to keep up with violin and piano practice on our trip. And we did not succeed most days.

Our friends Jared and Leslie just moved to Colorado from Wisconsin, and they were in Utah for a visit at the same time as us. We met at a park near Jared's parent's home to ride their beautiful horses!

Our horse loving girl Georgia was in heaven!

Del and I got away a week early for our 13 year anniversary. We left the kids with family for two nights and stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in Park City. This is me in in our suite at the hotel. We got an awesome upgrade when it turned out we used to live in the same ward when as they guy checking us in to the hotel when we first moved to the Chicago area! It ended up being wonderful to have that beautiful refrigerator, and the freezer inside it! I ended the trip needing ice on my arm 24 hours a day.

We got up and headed up to the Canyons lifts the next morning for some mountain biking. We rented our bikes, and we left the shop completely decked out in pads!
Going up!

We rode the lifts up to the top and then we rode down the mountain bike trails. We did the easiest one the first few times and it all went great! We challenged ourselves a bit more the next few times by trying a more difficult trail. We also biked around near the little lake up there some too. My heart was pounding right out of my chest going uphill in the thin air! So painful!

The unfortunate part of the day came when we decided to try to take a skinny, but flat trail back to the bike shop. We had not even reached the downhill part of it yet, when I clipped a little tree with my left handle bar. I was flipped off the bike, and landed on the trail, catching myself with my left hand. I bent it so far backward, I knew immediately I was going to be hurting. Del was out of sight ahead of me, so I yelled to him, and he turned around. I was so frustrated with myself. I kept trying to shake my hand out and saying, "DANG IT, DANG IT!!!" over and over. Finally I just laid down on the trail on my back out of shock and anger with myself!

I tried to ride the bike back to the lifts to go down, but after about 200 yards, I knew I couldn't do it. So I walked it back. Because I am way too prideful, I walked my bike right past a first aide station, past the lift guy, threw the bike up on the hooks as best I could before he had to help me. Then when I got to  the bottom I walked into the bike shop, I put my bike in on the rack, turned around and left. I told the chauffeur sent by our hotel to pick us up when I got in the car, and he called the valet to have some ice waiting for me. That was so nice of him. Del was behind me trying to finish up our rental arrangement, and he was surprised that I was already in the car with ice on order when he caught up to me. The Waldorf was so good to us!
When we got back, the pain had really settled in, so we made a call to Jared, who is an orthopedic surgeon. We knew that even if it was broken, they wouldn't cast it when it was so swollen. So I got as comfortable as I could at the pool, where another industrial size garbage bag full of ice was delivered to me, poolside.
We had a business dinner that night. Del helped me get ready. He had to undress me, help me wash my hair, and he even shaved my armpits! That is love, people! I got a good one! Ha! When I asked Del if he thought he could blow out, and style my hair, the look on his face told me he had reached the limit in  his abilities to groom me. Luckily, the hotel salon squeezed me in for a blow out, and I was on my way to dinner. Ice, Ibuprofen, and a splint from Walgreens were my accessories! It was a very uncomfortable night.
I am still dealing with this mess. We saw a surgeon while we were in Utah, and he told me there was no break, but I needed an MRI to ensure there were no hidden hairline fractures or ligament damage. After he gave me a brace better suited to my injury, I decided to just give it some time to heal before I had the MRI. It has been four weeks on Friday and I have finally decided I am sick of this brace, and I need to see someone else to find out if healing this slowly is normal. So, I will know more at the end of the week.
So long story, really long...
What a pain!!!!

We stayed in Utah for the 24th of July celebrations. We had a nice breakfast with Del's family.

The kids were loving it!

Two of Del's sisters. Wendy and Renee. Both pretty amazing!
The beautiful Nikole, Georgia, and Nate.

Going in for the kill!

And... it's good!

Del and Dave.
Del's Mom and Dad.

Stoney eyed me, and Renee.

I love seeing my Grandparents while we are in town. They are aging quickly, so I try to appreciate these visits!
My pretty Mom and Grandma Clark. Two of the biggest influences in my life. I try to keep perspective at times by asking myself when I am stressing if my Grandma would ever have seen this as something worthy of her time. It is very grounding.
My Grandpa. I just love him! I wish this picture was not so washed out with light, and that I again, did not have stoney eyes. I guess all the Ibuprofen in my system was affecting me! Ha!

Again, a picture with the ones that matter. All my sisters and my mom. I had one with my Dad that I put on Instagram, but I had phone drama while acting as Den Guide at  Wally's Cub Scout camp a couple of days after we got home, and now it is trapped in my old, shattered phone. But my Dad is pretty important too!

All the Grandkids on my side. Kinda wishing we had moved all the BBQ paraphernalia out of the background. But it was a par-tay, what can I say?
We headed home the next day. Driving across the country with a U-Haul full of one of Del's employee's stuff. She was relocating for the job, and Del told her we could throw it on the back of our car. Just a short drive later, we were home! Ha! Worth every mile!
