It's Christmas, Let's...Fiesta!

This year Del decided that he needed to keep things simple for the Chicago area company Christmas party. It has been a year full of stress with Medicare, (the most incompetent of government agencies, just FYI... Heaven help us all when the healthcare law goes into effect!)
So it seemed only fitting that we forgo anything else that may add undo stress to our lives, or the lives of the rest of his employees.

They were all super good sports about it, and came up with the idea of having a pot luck at the office!
I made my once a year appearance at the office and saw old faces, and as is usual, many new faces.
One of the main planners for this shin-dig was Del's lead technician, Mario.
He is from El Salvidor.
He made a turkey with some kind of special seasoning, all the way from El Salvador.
He had a TON of food brought in from a local restaurant made by friends from, El Salvador.
He set up an iphone doc and  played festive music from, El Salvdor.
He had a surprise pinata that many of us got to take a swing at, um, probably NOT from El Salvador.
Probably made in China.

But... I am thinking we all may want to go to El Salvador, because they know how to have a good time!

Everyone brought something to add to the feast, and we had a lot, lot, lot of food! I tried traditional El Salvadorian food, plus a lot of good old fashioned American favorites, and it was yum!

We just talked and ate, and danced to 90's music on Pandora, and some people sent faxes, and made copies, and riffled through file drawers, and signed checks.
Yes, we were in the office after all. And we are dealing with some work-a-holics!

After we were all about to burst from the food, they dragged Del out to the warehouse and blindfolded him so he could have the first go at the pinata.
Then it was my turn.
And, we have video, folks!

The only pictures from the whole night were taken in the warehouse, so it looks a little rough.

But I won't lie, Del's office is overall a little... well, not on the fancy side.

One, because if Del did want to move offices, he would have to alert Medicare to a change of address. And sometimes, a lot of the time, they decide that they didn't get that memo. And then they won't pay you. Because they aren't sure of your address. Del knows of many a company who had major headaches on their hands because of this. (Did I mention Medicare being incompetent?)
Oh, yeah. Let's hope they don't read this and decide to stop payment because I am a meanie.

Two, Del likes to keep his overhead low, and let's be honest, that just benefits everyone.

And three, this is Del we are talking about. The man who has a sister who says you need a crowbar to pry open his wallet. (Yes, she is exaggerating.)
He is not going to go all out when it comes to office supplies.

Once back in 2008, some of the employees found out that Obama's campaign headquarters were getting rid of a bunch of office furniture after the election. They took a van down to empty the place.
And that is where much of the current stuff came from.

I know, the door is wide open for jokes on that one.

By the way, when you read this babe, it is one of your greatest attributes! I love you, and your frugal ways!

So here is Del, and then me, swinging for the fences, and catching a lot of air! And I do tend to be a bit of a giggler, something I do not care for. So please try to overlook my hyena like laughter, and dumb commentary.

On a much more sober note, I was very glad to get home that night and check on all my kids, asleep in their beds. The horrible news of the day coming out of Connecticut made moms everywhere grateful for those sleeping little souls. I know it has made me deepen my prayers of gratitude, and put a lot into perspective. I hope angels comfort those in pain because of this tragedy.

I saw the words to the Christmas hymn, "I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day" posted somewhere, and they brought a lot of comfort.

"And in despair I bowed my head.
"There is no peace on Earth," I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on Earth, good will to men"

"Then peeled the bells more loud and deep;
"God is not dead nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on Earth, good will to men."

I know that a loving Father in Heaven sees our sorrow, and it does not go unnoticed. The pain of the bad, and the joy of the good all mix together in this life, but it is not all for nothing. We will exist in the next life and our experiences here are all for our good in that Eternal perspective. It is just hard to keep that perspective in the middle of such tragedy. But there is peace in our Savior, Jesus Christ, and I am grateful to be in the midst of the Christmas season, when that reminder is so visible. And those in pain are in my prayers.

I can't imagine the depth of their pain.
