Smarty Pants
We have two boys at our house who look like they are headed to the Ivy League.
Wally and Walker got glasses this week! Yes, my one year old is in glasses. They both look so smart in them. Especially Wally.
It sounds crazy, and trust me that is what I said to the doctor. But both boys have issues with depth perception, and just plain old incorrect input coming from their eyes. We are hoping this helps both of them with their head tilting tendencies. Talking to the eye doctor was fascinating! I never realized how some children see, and how that can change your entire way of moving your body when you don't see correctly. I felt like I had been in another world after I left her office. A world that literally sees things differently than I do!
Walker's glasses have plastic frames so that they can't be broken as easily. They do look a bit swim goggle-ish. I really have been amazed at how well he keeps them on so far. How well it continues to go remains to be seen.
He is even walking around much more now! He took his first tentative little steps about three weeks ago, then this past weekend little Jack Tyson came for a visit. Watching him zip around inspired Walker to get more serious about walking on Sunday. After we put the glasses on, we couldn't stop him from trying if we wanted to! It is SO sweet to watch our baby toddle uncertainly around the house!
Wally told me that he was embarrassed and he was going to hide the glasses at school. Oh no! I wrote a quick note to the teacher to give her a heads up! So it has taken a bit of convincing that he looks good in them.
He was watching "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and he said,
"Mom, Simon is the smart one."
I told him, "Yeah, and he wears glasses."
Wally could not even think of anything to come back with.
We are just checking things off our list to try to find what best helps these little guys. We have now got glasses covered. And it is just a bonus that Wally looks like a little deep thinking scholar.

Oh! They both look so cute! I'm sorry that Walker had to get his so young! Annie was 11 months when she got hers too. I still remember her walking around the house and examining everything so closely like she was seeing everything for the first time. I remember I was wearing blue jeans and she was so interested in the tiny little lines on the fabric. She just kept touching and rubbing the fabric over and over. It made me cry! That's so great that its already helping him to get around more too!
There is one brand of glasses I love. They never break and have been so good for annie. We've had 3 pair and everytime I try anything different I always regret it and go right back to them. Anyway, it's the Flexon brand frames and I LOVE them. They literally bend in half and just spring back to the original shape.
(I'm their unofficial spokesman)
Tell Wally I think he looks handsome and that Clark Kent wears glasses too!
larkin got his just this school year, he's five, and he's adjusted pretty well to them, but we all wear glasses/contacts in this house so he feels more like his daddy and thats just cool to him. its good to know that its helping them from developing any further problems. he looks cute! that's exactly why larkin was clark kent for halloween? did you get my blog invite?
They both look so handsome! I love little kids in glasses they just look so cute and smart for how young they are.
That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!! So dang cute seeing little kiddies in glassess even if they are "swim goggle-ish" :)
OMG they are so cute!
Luvs!
So sweet, tell Wally he looks so cool and I bet everybody at school is jelous of his cool glasses, And Walker look like a little Dexter from Dexter's Labratory. I love it. Can't wait to see you guys, I'm such Mac is glad he'll have a little buddy to run around with
My daughter has been wearing glasses since she was three because she has lazy eye. What our eyes and brain have to do TOGETHER amazes me, too!! :)
Wearing glasses was a real struggle at first, but we told our daughter when she got them, that the glasses are medicine and if she didn't wear them, her eyes wouldn't get better. Now she's 7 and she faithfully wears them. The only thing that upsets her is that her frames aren't pink! :) :)
And your boys look very distinguished! :)
They both are so cute!
Seriously so cute! I'm so impressed Walker keeps them on too!
