You Have To Be Pretty Cute To Pull Off This Look

Walker is sporting a new accessory these days. After much debate and many a consultation, (which included appointments in the city) we decided that we don't want any regrets as far as treatment of Walker's Torticollis is concerned.

Walker has got one stubborn tilt to his little head! He has been in therapy since he was eight weeks old, and really the misshaping of his head and face has been minimal, but we think it is worth a shot to make sure we get it just right. The window in which babies can be helped by these helmets is limited, so it was now, or never. His therapist also thinks this may be beneficial for the root of the problem, the Torticollis, in addition to the head reshaping.

Wally also wore one of these and I swear his was not as bulky! I can hardly see Walker's face when I hold him. Poor guy, having to wear this hot thing in the Summer.

I am also considering buying a curio cabinet to display this one, and the one Wally wore. They are so gosh darn expensive they deserve a place of honor! I can't bring myself to throw Wally's away... six years later. Our kids are worth it. Their future is our greatest investment, and they bring the most joy.

So now, it is on to all the strange looks and comments when we are out. And I mean a LOT of them. That is okay, I have learned that it is a chance to broaden the world of knowledge on childhood orthopedic devices for the person asking.
The first comment was from a lady at T.J. Maxx just hours after Walker got the helmet. She looked at my older kids and said they were cute, then at Walker and said, "Ohhhh....and there is SOMETHING going on here!"
It was funny. She was nice, just curious. And Walker always has a big grin for people.
My favorite was when Wally wore his and people would ask me if I dropped him on his head. Or when someone thought he wore it solely for the purpose of not getting a goose egg when bonking his head.

Walker, you look pretty sweet in your helmet. Oh, and if the insurance doesn't come through, just remember when you want your first car, that you took this bad boy for a spin instead!

I'll still have it to remind you, even then.

Awww! He still looks super cute in it. How long does he have to wear it? Wouldn't we look funny if you, me, Walker, and Blake went out together. People would probably think we were child abusers. Well I hope you guys have a great summer despite the awesome helmet.

He really is darling. That little face is so squeezable! How long do you think he will have it for?

Melissa,
That would be HILLARIOUS!! I hope Blake is getting better. What an ordeal you have been through. He will be in it for up to four months depending on progress. Thanks for still thinking he is cute. I kind of love him no matter what.

What a sweet little face! Oh, the memories come flooding back. First Wally and then Owen, and now poor Walker. I felt bad for Owen when he had to wear it that hot summer two years ago, and now I feel even worse for Walker because his is so thick! Hopefully this time will go by quickly!

He does look stylin' in his new hat! Here's to getting a thick skin from all the comments and looks, but me, I think he is a cutie.

He is so cute and the blue color really suits his eyes! :) I still haven't thrown away Kaden's helmet either!

I love it, he is sweet with or without the helmet. And of course you know that a little helmet is nothing compared to what other people go through. And the others can help decorate it....if you dare!:)
I LOVE seeing what you are up to with your blog...even though I never keep in touch, I do think of you.

Our oldest did helmet therapy too. I had to brace myself everytime we went out in public. Someone once asked me what planet he came from! He does look so cute sporting his new look!

He does look super cute in it!! I came across Carter's helmet just the other day - I sure hated that thing! You're doing the right thing though, we didn't catch Carter's until it was almost too late and his head is still a little flatter on one side. Maybe when Walker's done you can make bookends or candle holders out of them.
