This post is a plea to all those out there who have found a vacuum they love.
I'll start by saying that I have been through at least three vacuums in this past year. They are all starting to blur together into one disappointing memory. I will admit that I have not shelled out the big bucks for any of those vacuums I have seen advertised as miraculously high powered and clog free, because my experience so far has been that no vacuum is able to escape a fate of being rendered useless after entering my home. So far, the vacuum I have now is the worst of in the long line of bad Bissels, Hoovers and Devils. I am left to wonder if there is anything invented, short of a massive ant colony, or serious industrial vacuum that can keep the floor crumb free in my house. The vacuum makes at least two or three major appearances a day with my kids, so this is an emergency.
So here is what I need... an industrial strength vac made for use in the home. I may have to resort to a ShopVac, and just crawl around on my hands and knees to get everything up. I need a vacuum that will not shy away from sucking up an entire box of spilled Teddy Grahams off the floor. A machine that has hose sucking power that will leave my licorice caked stair case fluffy and looking new. A vacuum that will pick up dust I didn't even know was there, and still clean up the clumps of mud left my my boys shoes. I need some help getting the walked on, BBQ potato chip orange haze off the carpet, and making the entire bag of rice spilled on the kitchen floor disappear. A tall order, I know, and if there truly is a vacuum invented that can take care of the needs of my obviously incredibly spill prone household, I would be willing to make a worthy investment. So please for the sake of my carpet, if you know of one, share your secret! Thank you!

I got a Dyson for christmas last year and I am still in awe of what that thing will suck up!!! I never knew there was so much dirt in my carpet and crumbs on my floor until I got that. It is awesome and I think it might survive your spills!
I lost my favorite vacuum last year. It was just a Shark Euro Pro canister vac, but I used it for everything and it was little. I couldn't believe how well it sucked! We can be on the hunt together. I'm glad you came to visit today. I'll call when we get back into town and we can make a trip to the city.
I echo the Dyson comment. I have an immitation Dyson...it's called the Shark Infiniti. Love it, but it's no Dyson. My friend says hers sucks up anything and it never breaks down on her. Next one up for me is the Dyson for sure!
I died laughing at your post. You are such a crack-up. I will be really excited to see the vac winner, I have the same problem. Does the Dyson suck up sunscreen?? :)
Mandy,
I laughed out loud about the sunscreen! How perfect! Of course that would get all over the carpet! I might have to get me a Dyson!
We just got central vac installed and I LOVE IT!!! It is THE BEST vaccume I have ever had and I own a dog! It gets EVERYTING!
My Dyson sucked so good, that I bought a second one for my main floor. My Mom has a couple of Oreck's, and they suck pretty good too.
I borrowed my sister in laws Dyson prior to cleaning my carpets...I was shocked at what it pulled up even after vacuuming the area several times with my own vacuum before.
Since I was so shocked I vacuumed the room again (with the Dyson) It still pulled up tons of stuff. It kind of grossed me out. Did my carpets really have that much dirt in it...yep. My next vacuum purchase will be the Dyson.
I got a dyson last year and I LOVE it! When I bought it I had just vacuumed my carpet with my old vacuum and thought my carpet was pretty clean. I came home and vacuumed with the dyson and I was SHOCKED and disgusted at what came up. It is also fun to be able to see everything it picks up in the clear canister it has. And it is a breeze to be able to just take the canister out to the big garbage and dump it it.
I got it at COSTCO!
